With more than 120 employees at our Newcomerstown, OH facility, we thrive on the close working relationships and, in many cases, the friendships established among our employees. SIMONA Boltaron promotes a strong team and family culture.

The History of SIMONA Boltaron

The Newcomerstown, Ohio facility was founded as the Plastics Division of Sieberling Rubber Company in 1954 and was subsequently purchased by The General Tire & Rubber Co. (GTR) in 1968. The facility was purchased by Empire Plastics, Inc., a New York based private equity group in November 1995 and in January 1996, Lawrence J. Schorr became its President and Chief Operating Officer. In 1999, Dr. Dean Li joined the company after completing his Ph.D in Chemistry in Canada as the director of research and development. And so began a collaboration and partnership between Schorr and Li.

On October 25, 2004 Mr. Schorr, together with Dr. Li acquired the Newcomerstown operations from Empire, changing the name of the company to Boltaron Performance Products. Over the course of the next ten years, Messrs. Schorr and Li, together with a growing team of exceptional performers, transformed a commodity sheet manufacturer into a highly specialized extrusion operation focused primarily on aviation interiors and other niche markets. In 2010 Boltaron sold its market leading calendering technology and business to its rival competitor and then reinvested the proceeds in the extrusion business. The increased investment and focus on extrusion for the aviation market resulted in dramatic and transformational increases in profitability, market share and global penetration.

In May, 2014, Mr. Schorr once again determined that it was time for Boltaron to join a larger and more global company to help take it to the next level of achievement. Although there were many potential acquirers, Mr. Schorr focused on SIMONA AG because of its technical capabilities, three continent presence, and a unique cultural fit that he believed would allow Boltaron to grow even further. Boltaron became a division of SIMONA AG and Mr. Schorr became the CEO of the SIMONA AMERICA Group, a $160 million group of three distinct but mutually supportive extrusion operations in North America.

In 2018, Boltaron was renamed SIMONA Boltaron, which together with its sister companies, SIMONA AMERICA Industries and SIMONA PMC comprise the SIMONA AMERICA Group.
