Care and Maintenance
Boltaron® high performance materials are engineered to maintain their quality appearance for a long lifetime of use. Whether used for airplane seat parts, which need to withstand passenger abuse and rigorous daily cleaning practices, or for other applications in the medical, equipment manufacturing or architectural fields with similar cleanability requirements, SIMONA Boltaron is committed to providing materials that stay looking great and last as long as you need them.
Cleaning Material Surfaces
SIMONA Boltaron relies on the CDC to provide the best guidelines for disinfecting hard surface materials and recommends that you clean the surface following regular protocols before the disinfecting process using the following steps.
- Wipe the surface with a dry cloth to remove all dirt or residue.
- Spray the surface with an approved cleaning product.
- Follow the cleaning manufacturer’s instructions paying particular attention to the length of time to leave the cleaning solution on the surface before removing it.
- Remove all of the cleaning solution residue from the surface completely using water and wipe dry with a clean cloth to prevent water spots or residues.

Using Adhesives
Many types of adhesives can be used to glue or adhere Boltaron materials to a substrate. An in-house study was performed to see which adhesives created a proper bond when adhered to a specific substrate.
Types of adhesives that can be used include 2 part acrylics, contact cement, cyanoacrylates, foam acrylic tape, 2 part polyurethane, instant adhesives, multi-purpose cement, solvent based and structural adhesives. SIMONA Boltaron does not recommend the use of epoxy.

- Stainless steel
- ABS
- Acrylic

- Polystyrene

Storing Boltaron Materials
Boltaron sheet can be stored indefinitely and has no shelf life, provided that it is stored under proper conditions. Proper storage conditions are critical to ensure properties are maintained and are not compromised.
Proper Storage Conditions Include the Following:
- Store sheet indoors at temperatures between 40–90°F (4.4–32.2°C) and humidity < 80%
- Do not expose to direct sunlight or other sources of UV light
- Ensure the sheet is stored in a dry location
- Boltaron sheet should be kept in its original packaging and protected from impact from other pallets or objects
- If Boltaron sheet must be repacked, the sheet should be kept flat. Corrugated cardboard should not be used, as it could cause lines to appear
- The sheet should never be placed directly onto a pallet without a rigid protective layer between the sheet and the pallet
- The pallet should be stable, flat, and well maintained with length and width dimensions equal to or greater than those of the sheet
- Pallets should never be stacked more than two high, nor should any other materials be stacked on top
- Unpacked sheets should be covered with an opaque foil to protect against contamination and UV degradation
If evidence of moisture is seen in a sheet stored for a long period of time, it may be necessary to dry prior to thermoforming.
Repairing Boltaron Materials
Boltaron materials are engineered to be inherently impact and scratch resistant. However, over a lifetime of use abusive applications, they may withstand dents or imperfections in the material’s surface.
Plastic repair systems such as SATTO® SA20-21 can be used safely on Boltaron materials to recover damaged parts in aircraft interior cabins and other applications. For more information on SATTO repair systems, visit https://satto.aero/.
