Boltaron®4550 is SIMONA Boltaron’s UV and weather resistant grade for exterior thermoforming applications.
4550 sheet is capped with a clear UV resistant acrylic film, offering long term durability and quality appearance for applications that see prolonged sun exposure. In radome applications, this material minimally attenuates the electromagnetic signal transmitted or received by the antenna with a low dielectric constant and dissipation factor.
Why choose Boltaron thermoplastics for radome applications? Boltaron materials are hydrophobic, meaning they have very low water absorption and perform well in rainy and wet environments. These materials have great impact strength compared to other thermoformable plastics, so they will hold up in extreme temperatures without cracking or breaking.
Custom colors can also be produced to blend in with surrounding areas. Boltaron sheet is easy to thermoform to almost any shape and still maintain high definition. Boltaron 4550 also meets UL standard 94 V-0 flammability resistance.
Boltaron 4550 Advantages
A radome is a dome or other structure, weatherproof enclosure protecting radar equipment. The radome is constructed of material that minimally interferes with the electromagnetic signal transmitted or received by the antenna, effectively transparent to radio waves.
Radomes are used in ground, air and sea applications, so they are required to have UV and water resistance with excellent performance in outdoor environments. As spending increases on high speed wireless internet and 5G in rural areas around the world, the global radome market space is expected to grow at a huge rage by 2027.
