Virgin Atlantic A350 Loft
Translucent Decorative Panels are a Key Design Feature of Virgin Atlantic’s New A350 Business Class Suite
Through a collaboration with Virgin Atlantic, London based aircraft interior design firm FactoryDesign, and seat manufacturer AIM Altitude, SIMONA Boltaron supplied several custom parts for this high profile, luxury interior program.
Virgin Atlantic’s A350 cabin will feature a communal space called “The Loft,” where passengers can gather together or watch a movie. The end pieces of the sofas are formed with Boltaron® 9815P in a black cherry color and leather texture. This texture was specially selected to match the actual leather of the sofas and blend with the luxury finishes of the area. It also offers the added benefit of excellent scratch and abuse resistance.
SIMONA Boltaron also supplied decorative translucent panels to be used as screen dividers between the cabin and the loft lounge. To create what is the largest decorative translucent part currently flying on any major airline, the design house provided the artwork to be printed on a thin clear film. The print was then press laminated and trapped inside two sheets of Boltaron® 9916 FAR 25.853 paragraph (d) rated sheet with a texture on both surfaces, and thermoformed to keep its shape in the frame. These panels will allow light to pass through, while not allowing clear visibility to the other side.
There was a long development process with FactoryDesign and Virgin Atlantic to get to a panel that met their requirements for this application both in terms of function and aesthetics. The end result is a successful testament of SIMONA Boltaron’s collaborative and service-oriented approach to supplying the aircraft interiors market.
